What this connection does
Synemer connects to Coinbase using a read-only CDP API key. One Coinbase connection can read either your Global Derivatives perpetuals or your CFM US futures, depending on the account type you select during setup.
It imports closed trades, fill-level orders, open positions, balance and funding. It cannot place orders, cancel orders, transfer funds or withdraw.
Coinbase support is in beta. Connection or sync may fail while we validate it with real accounts.
Choose the right account type
Global Derivatives covers international perpetuals on Coinbase's Deribit-powered gateway. The available products include crypto, commodity, index and equity perpetuals. Choose this if your Coinbase account shows a Global Derivative portfolio.
US Futures covers Coinbase Financial Markets futures on Advanced Trade. It requires an eligible CFM futures account. Choose this only if your account has a CFM futures portfolio.
Select the matching account type in the Synemer connection form. The key must be permissioned to the same portfolio or Coinbase will reject the sync.
Before you start
You need a Coinbase account with access to Global Derivatives, or an approved Coinbase Financial Markets futures account for CFM.
You also need access to Coinbase API settings or the Coinbase Developer Platform to create a Secret API key.
Create the API key
Open coinbase.com/settings/api or the Coinbase Developer Platform, go to Secret API Keys and create a new key.
Choose Ed25519 (recommended) or ECDSA. Both work with direct Advanced Trade API calls.
Set the portfolio to the Global Derivative portfolio or the CFM futures portfolio, matching the account type you will select in Synemer. Grant View permission only. Do not enable Trade, Transfer or Receive.
Leave the IP whitelist empty for testing. If you use it, allow Synemer's egress IP.
Copy the key name and private key. The key name looks like organizations/{org_id}/apiKeys/{key_id}. No passphrase is used.
Add the connection in Synemer
In Synemer, open Add connection, choose Crypto exchanges and select Coinbase.
Choose Global Derivatives or US Futures, then paste the key name and private key.
Save the connection and let the first sync run. The first pass imports recent trades and positions, then backfills older history.
What syncs automatically
Synemer imports closed perpetual trades, fill-level orders, open positions and balance.
Global Derivatives funding is read from settlement entries and recorded as funding cash flows. CFM exposes portfolio-level funding only.
Spot trading is not imported. This connection reads perpetual futures only.
History and symbol names
Global Derivatives historical records persist, so Synemer starts its backfill from January 2020 and imports whatever the gateway exposes for your account. CFM keeps the shorter futures fills window, currently about one year.
Coinbase instrument names are normalized for display. For example, BTC_USDC-PERPETUAL is shown as BTCUSDC so pair icons and filters work. The raw instrument name is kept internally and used for candles and API requests.
Troubleshooting
401 Unauthorized: confirm the key name and private key were copied completely, the key uses Ed25519 or ECDSA, and it has View permission.
403 portfolio access: the key is not permissioned to the selected portfolio. Recreate the key with the Global Derivative or CFM futures portfolio selected, then update the connection.
Rate limit or too_many_requests: the worker backs off automatically and retries. Wait a few minutes before requesting another sync.
No trades after sync: confirm the selected account type matches the portfolio, that the account has closed trades, and that you are not expecting spot data. Run a full rescan after changing the key.
Coinbase is in beta. If sync keeps failing, open Settings and copy the latest sync error so we can investigate.
